Leamington Studio Artists and East Lodge Gallery
East Lodge, Willes Road, CV32 4ER Leamington Spa, Warwickshire
We have a treat of beautiful detailed work from both artists in the August exhibition. Prepare to be amazed by their patience and skill!
Ian Antony Paul is a self-taught artist. Although he uses other mediums, he favours acrylics, usually on canvas and preferably in the abstract style. Although he studied art at school, he never took any further education on the subject, but painting has always been his main hobby, until recently turning professional.
His paintings are very colourful, controlled, multi-layered patterns which lend themselves to fabric designs and wall art. Unless it’s a commissioned piece, he very rarely has any plans or philosophies before painting. A painting usually starts with a choice of ...colours and then he lets the creative process determine the direction in which the piece progresses. It’s only if, at any stage, an influence or theme is identified that any kind of plan is formulated toward an end result.
Guy Chapman started drawing from a very young age and discovered it was one of the few things that he could do that could engage his vast imagination. In the 90s he started drawing portraits for a number of well-known music artists and also developed a very detailed style of art which he now calls “imaginaria”. Heavily illustrative in appearance, he creates complex pictures using pen, ink and colour pencils and it is this which forms his current portfolio.
He has illustrated two books now, the last of which (and freshly published) is a creative art book entitled “Use Your Imaginaria!” which is designed to encourage creative drawing and writing in younger children and upwards.
He regularly exhibits at the Craftsmans Market in Cirencester each month and has joined the Cotswold Craftsmen Guild who are a group of very highly-skilled talents, and will be attending a number of high-profile events this year in Malvern, Leamington and Bath.
