A two day workshop exploring and developing the Swedish polska. The course is aimed at dancers of all abilities — whether you are a seasoned polska dancer or a complete beginner — this course will offer the opportunity for everyone to develop their dancing ability. We will work together as a group to deconstruct the polska and look at the elements that make up the dance, looking at both the leading and following roles, posture, hold, balance, relationship to the music and examining other parts of specific technique.
Everyone involved in the course will be dancing with all other participants and also learning both roles in the dance (No partner required). The course will be taught by Ella Sprung, Andrew Parr and Lucy Huzzard, all three of whom have completed the year long folk dance diploma course at the Eric Sahlström Institute in Sweden.
We will spend the two days dancing to live music — musician to be confirmed, so watch this space.
The workshop will be 11-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday and there will also be a social dance evening on the Saturday night. You will need shoes appropriate for Swedish dance (preferably leather or other smooth soled shoes — ask us if you have any questions).
Cost: Standard price — £95 (includes booking fee) Student price — £75 (includes booking fee). This includes tea, coffee and cake all weekend, and entrance to the evening event on Saturday, but not accommodation. (Please do get in touch with us if money is a problem!)
